Compositions - Editing transcripts

Editing the transcripts within Compositions can vary depending on your implmenentation of captions. The following guide outlines how to edit your respective transcript if you have turned on permanent/burn-in captions via the Composition Editor or if you are editing post generation.

Transcripts for permanent captions

Permanent/burn-in captions are rendered directly onto the video frames during the export process, making them an immutable part of the final asset. Since they are hard-coded, the user has no control over displaying them. To learn how to generate these captions, please read the following guide.

Captions generated within a Composition use the original transcript of the scene videos. To update, remove a word, or adjust the timing of the transcript, first locate the part of the video you want to change. Then, click the Expand to fit caption button in the bottom right corner.

The zoomed-in view displays individual words in the timeline editor for granular control over the transcript. You have the following editing options:

  • To correct a spelling error, double-click the word and type your revision.
  • To remove a word, click it once and hit the delete key.
  • To adjust the word's start or end time, drag its boundaries on the timeline.

All changes you make are reflected in the canvas in real time. Changes are auto-saved within the Composition and can be easily managed using the undo/redo functionality.

Transcripts for Closed Captions (CC)

Vouch provides transcripts for Closed Captions across all videos and Compositions on the platform. The source of the final transcript depends on your workflow:

  • For permanent/burnt-in captions, the transcript is sourced from the exact words and timings used in the video editor.
  • If you did not generate permanent captions, you retain the ability to adjust the transcript post-publishing.

To adjust the transcript after publishing, simply go to the Composition Details page and click the Transcript tab. Once the transcript loads, click Edit in the top right corner.

This action loads the Edit Transcription modal, where you can update your video's transcript. When you're finished with your changes, click save transcription.

Important Note: Unless you are using permanent (burn-in) captions, your transcript will be regenerated every time you publish the video. Vouch strongly recommends finalizing your video content before making any manual transcript changes.
